Episode 116: Silver Age Superman in 2025

While waiting for their guest Godot to show up, Jeff and Scott trip and fall into a discussion about James Gunn's recent film Superman, and why it's basically a comic book bought off a squeaky wire rack in a drug store in 1954.

Episode 114: Supermen Against the Orient (1973)

It's 1973. Bruce Lee has died and the Kung Fu movie craze is slowly deflating. Desperate, Hong Kong producers joins forces with Italy, combining their kung fu choreography with the Italians' stupid and clumsy superhero spoofs in order to produce a wholly new genre, one that manages to prove that the sum of its parts is a negative integer.

Known in the original Italian as Crash! Che botte... Strippo strappo stroppio (What a blow... I strip, I tear, I cripple). Please join us.

Jeff, like the suave Devil depicted in this film, uses his unholy blandishments to tempt and lure Scott into watching this warmed over Israeli rock opera. But in the end, Scott gets his revenge. Oh yes he does...

Better Living Through Bad Movies Presents: Autumn in New York (2000)

 From this week's review:

“Our movie begins with the gray-haired Richard Gere flirting with pregnant women in Central Park. Clearly Richard is a womanizer who must be taught a lesson—so God decides to make him fall in love with Winona Ryder. Yeah, it seems kind of harsh to us too, but remember what He did to the Cities of the Plain for roughly the same offense.

Richard is a successful restaurateur who has just been named “Sexiest Man Alive” by The Journal of Industrial Food Service when he is introduced to Winona by her grandmother. Richard used to date Winona’s mother, and Grannie thinks it would make a nice tradition to pass him down through the generations.”

Better Living Through Bad Movies Presents: Batman (1943)

"I'LL show you people how to Batman! The secret is panties! BIG panties! You see, criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot. To instill fear into their hearts, I became a bat. When that failed, I wore my Pull-Ups on the outside and now criminals are super uncomfortable around me and don't know where to look. Works every time!"

Yes I'm Still Bitching About New Breed

I admit, I can't let it go, because this remains the single worst movie I have ever sat through, in a long life spent staring at a lot of crap films. This is the champ. I'd blame Jeff for finding it, but he did warn me, and I must conclude, as Jimmy Buffett did in Margaritaville, "It's my own damn fault." So join me in my rage, won't you?

P.S. Sorry it's been so long between podcast episodes. We will be back soon with a new one (already half recorded) as soon as Jeff gets through some medical issues this coming. Please stay tuned.
